Frequently Asked Questions

What is Climb Rate?

Climb Rate measures how many vertical meters you gain per hour while running uphill. It's calculated by dividing elevation gained by time spent climbing. A higher Climb Rate means you're a more efficient climber. Typical trail runners see 300-500 m/hr on moderate grades, while elite mountain runners can exceed 1000 m/hr.

What are grade bands?

Grade bands group terrain by steepness percentage. Based on biomechanics research (Minetti et al.), we use five bands: 0-5% (Flat/Gentle), 5-10% (Runnable), 10-15% (Transition zone), 15-25% (Power Hike – where walking becomes more efficient), and 25%+ (Steep – hands-on-knees territory).

How does this help my training?

By tracking Climb Rate across grade bands over time, you can identify which grades need more training focus, see if your climbing efficiency is improving, optimize pacing strategy for races with known grade profiles, and compare performance across different training blocks.

Is my data secure?

Yes. We only request read access to your activities. We store calculated metrics, not raw GPS data. You can delete your account and all data at any time.
